My paintings are a response to the world we live in, a language, that I use to express my feelings. The Cornish landscape influences me to some extent, but moreso I am drawn towards structures and people that bear the marks of transition, the past being part of the present... I am at home in a European culture.
My work is usually heavily worked oil, layers that cover layers and are scratched away, the past re-emerging in the present, like walls, buildings or old boats. I often collage with gauze and may use plaster of paris. Occasionally I have produced fragile sculptures in response to my work as a nurse, using surgical equipment.
I am now fully committed to painting, am an active member of Newlyn Society of artists and help run Creftow co-op. . I frequently show my work in Bologna, Italy; and have worked with Italian artists over the last 8 years. My paintings have gone to Europe, USA, Japan, Australia and NZ. |
